Description
ADRENALINE (The Fight or Flight Stress Hormone)
It’s well known that a perceived threatening situation (job interview, prepping for a presentation, meeting and completing year end deadlines, a difficult conversation or a near-accident) triggers our anxiety and causes the body to produce stress hormones (cortisol, adrenaline and norepinephrine.)
Our heart rate, blood pressure and breathing increases, we get pale or flushed, our pupils dilate for better vision and we may tremble (muscles tensed for action). These body responses help prepare us to fight or flee danger.
In the past, environmental threats were physical (being threatened by dangerous wild animals, forest fires, violent weather, earthquakes etc) and our bodies would be flooded by stress hormones so we’d be well-prepared to fight or take flight. Once the danger was over and we’d exerted ourselves physically either fighting or fleeing, we’d return to homeostasis and go about our daily lives once more.
Today’s threats are far more likely to be psychological and emotional. Sitting at a computer having to deal with heavy workloads, stressful decision-making and pressure from deadlines, all while being sedentary, when the adrenals kick in, the blood stream is flooded with triglycerides for energy to ‘fight or flee’ but without the physical release.
Ongoing stress leads to excess adrenaline being circulated and if not ‘mopped up’, converts to noradrenaline, which over extended time becomes harmful to a number of organ systems, resulting in fatigue, nausea, a compromised immune system, irritability, insomnia and burnout.
When excess stress hormones are released too often, your stress response forgets how to shut down. Your stress gains traction and suddenly you’re caught in a chronic cycle. This is known as over-adrenalization.
This is where the Pegasus LIVER 30C is invaluable. Anger and stress impact the liver. One of the ingredients in this remedy is Nux Vomica 200C, which fits the ‘A-Type’ personality person: continually ‘on the go’, juggling 5 things at once, often leading to out-of-character irritability and eventually burnout. This remedy supports and restores the liver and helps to ‘destress’ the individual. The Pegasus Liver 30C is available in retail stores (Wellness Warehouse, Faithful to Nature, Health Shops, DisChem and selected independent pharmacies)
In addition to the homeopathic Liver Remedy, The Pegasus ADRENAL SUPPORT TINCTURE and STRESS & NERVE TONIC (a herbal complex of mother tinctures) are restorative remedies for the adrenals and stress. These remedies are available separately on line here Adrenal Support Tincture and here Stress & Nerve tonic
If you purchase the combo together (Adrenal Support Tincture + Stress & Nerve Tonic + Liver 30C remedy) you will save between R60-R110 depending on which size remedy you choose.
INGREDIENTS
The synergy of the complex is more potent than just the individual herbs. Some of the herbs within the two complexes are;
Siberian Ginseng – An adaptogenic herb that works dynamically, either calming an overactive system or stimulating an underactive one. It reduces fatigue, improves immunity, boosts stamina, improves mental focus, decrease blood sugar, increases white blood cells (T Lymphocytes) and natural killer cells that engulf bacteria and viruses (so protecting against infection), strengthens the adrenal glands themselves and regulates the manufacture and secretion of the adrenal hormones normalising the body’s response to daily stress.
Rhodiola – Also an adaptogenic, it alleviates physical and mental fatigue enhancing cognitive performance. It regulates cortisol and supports key neurotransmitters like dopamine (mood, motivation and pleasure) and serotonin (your ‘get up and go, feel good’). It mitigates stress-induced fatigue and feelings of overwhelm, thereby decreasing burnout and exhaustion during high stress demand situations. Can relieve symptoms of mild to moderate depression and general anxiety.
Parsley – Loaded with Vit A (eye health), Vit C (Immune health), Vit K (crucial in bone health and blood clotting), Anti-oxidants, such as quercetin which reduces oxidative stress, lowering the risk of heart disease and even cancers. Kidney health is also supported.
Ashwaganda – An important Ayurvedic herb that lowers cortisol (main stress hormone), thus lowering stress levels, improves sleep quality, enhances focus and cognitive functionality. Can increase testosterone levels and thus physical strength and endurance.
Astralagus – Another adaptogenic herb, supporting the Immune system (Stimulates white blood cell production for defending against viruses). May assist in managing blood glucose levels and generally aiding body to handle physical stress.
Sceletium – A South African herb that is mood uplifting, stress reducing and increases mental focus.
Passiflora & Valerian – Both decrease anxiety, improve sleep (Increase brain levels of GABA – calming chemical), calm the central nervous system and ease emotional mood swings and irritability.
Gotu Kola – Yet another adaptogen that relieves stress and anxiety. It also soothes digestive issues that are often triggered by ongoing stress, by protecting the stomach lining thus safeguarding against stomach ulcers and IBS (irritable bowel syndrome)
NOTE: Avoid these herbs and others generally during 1st trimester pregnancy
The above Herbal Complexes are exclusively available on our Pegasus On-Line Shop.
